What process has to occur for the constitution to get amended?

First, the proposed amendment, or change to an amendment has to be proposed by a member or group of members of the House of Representatives or the Senate. It will be presented to whichever chamber it was proposed by, changed or altered if requested or necessary, and then it is voted on. If the amendment passes that chamber, let's say it was proposed in the House, then it will then go to the Senate, or vice versa. There, it will be voted on, possibly changed, and if it passes, it will go to the President to sign. Sometimes, the amendment will be sent back to the previous chamber to be changed because the president wants it changed. Many times, the process takes a long time, and it is almost guaranteed any bill which becomes law, will never look like it did when it first was introduced the chamber it started out in.
