My husband gets angry at the smallest things?

We have known each other for 4 years and have been married for 2 years. We have our ups and downs but everything was perfect until he asked me to go to this fast food place. He ordered his food and I've never been to this place before so I ordered a combo and told them to put whatever condiments on my food. He got upset and threw his hands in the air and got really upset in front of the cashier and other people. On the drive there we were happy and in love and listening to love music. He felt justified at throwing a fit in public and said it was my fault because I didn't tell the cashier what condiments I wanted. I’m also dieting and he often tries new places without me so this is the first time in weeks we ate fast food. I felt confused and embarrassed at the fact that he got so angry over food. He gave me one of those half way hugs after I convinced him that it was stupid and expected me to forget what he did. Should I make amends? He’s done this in the car but never in public. What would you do?
