Should i text my ex and make amends?

My ex & i went out for a year & i guess because he was a senior he decided he didn't want me anymore. But throughout all that he has been trying to go with this other girl behind my back, well he made promises saying he'll tell me everything & that even though we over now doesn't mean we over for good because something might happen in the future so it that him telling me he wants me to be happy and all that, then i guess the girl he was talking to , well it turned into a relationship like wow after 7 days he went with her so me and him got into this huge argument, he told me to leave him alone and stop pulling these stunts and that he don't need me and all those hurtful things..But he meant a lot to me and he was truly my best friend should i txt him and just check in ?
